Patel brothers to fund cricket academy on VNSGU land

SURAT: Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) has come up with an ambitious plan to set up a full-scale cricket academy and world-class Online Sports

sports complex on its land. A project, with basic cost of Rs 4 crore that could rise to double the amount, will be undertaken by a Patel farmer family from Bharthana village and will be completed in a year. VNSGU will not spend any money on it. The project was approved at the syndicate committee meeting of VNSGU on Thursday evening and an MoU with the party will be signed in a week. Apart from this, the Patel family, which is also into the construction business, will put up a new architecture department building at the university in eight months. This project will cost Rs 1.5 crore. Syndicate member Dr Mahendrasinh Chauhan said, "We have approved the project and are working out the proposal with Kamlesh, Raju and Pankaj Patel, who are brothers. They also run a self-financed college in the city and have assured us that the cricket academy and sports complex will have facilities comparable to the best in the country." The Patels, who were also present at Thursday's meeting, are willing to spend more if needed. They were felicitated by VNSGU vice-chancellor BA Prajapati. The university has formed a three-member committee, consisting of Dr Mahendrasinh Chauhan, Hosang Mirza and Sanjay Desai, to co-ordinate the whole project. (Inputs by Sandesh) Sports News
